Athlete of the Month Grant Kielczewski 1) How long have you been training? I’ve been active ever since I was a teenager. These days I focus on core strength and functional movements such as the squat, pushups and pullups. To that end, I find Crossfit to be a really good method, but I also add traditional resistance training to help develop other areas of my body. Conditioning is achieved through running, biking and swimming. 2) Age? 33, but I feel like I’m in my 20's. 3) Sports history? As a teenager I participated in track and field, ran cross country and was a pole vaulter. In college I learned and excelled in the Olympic lifting disciplines. Over the past couple of years I’ve gotten involved in Jiu Jitsu and began participating in obstacle races and endurance events like Tough Mudder and the Spartan Race. This summer I pushed myself a little further and completed an Olympic distance Triathlon, which was a big personal challenge but very rewarding. Learn more about the Tough Mudder It's worth the read! 4) What do you like most about training at Model A? Model A constantly evolves to meet the needs of its members and I really enjoy working out there. Over the years they’ve responded to requests to acquire various pieces of equipment that give the gym even more appeal for people who like to cross-train. I found the seminar they offered on back health really useful. On top of all this, they are clean, spacious, close to home, and extremely helpful when I have a fitness or nutrition question. 5) Body/performance changes (weight, BF%, strength gain etc)? I weigh about 172. I’m not so concerned with achieving exact strength, body weight or fat percentage goals, but rather overall fitness and health based upon how I look and feel generally. To that end, I find myself eating a lot more raw fruits and vegetable and lean meats. I recently purchased a Vitamix blender and found I love green smoothies. |
